Dear Graduating Students
Members of the Print and Electronic Media

Assalamu Alaikum, and very good morning!

I am privileged and honored today to stand before a group of smiling students and get an opportunity to say a few words in presence of a distinguished group of people in this august gathering.   Convocations are junctures for rejoicing and   looking ahead. I want to remember Sir Winston Churchill who said in the convocation of the MIT in 1949 that no technical knowledge can outweigh the knowledge of the humanities in the gaining of outstanding philosophy. Graduating students have an occasion for self-reflection for individuals, families and for the components that make up a university and for the institution itself. Let me here quote Confucius:  “He who learns but does not think, is lost! He who thinks but does not learn is in great danger.”

Presidency University has been emphasizing quality education of international standards since the commencement of its journey.  It has amassed qualified teachers with excellent academic backgrounds and developed substantial technological facilities to ensure quality and excellence in education.

I would like to express my deep respect to our beloved father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shiekh Muzibur Rahman for expanding education at all levels.

Presidency University regularly arranges and holds seminars, workshops, conferences and training programs to equip its students with practical knowledge that will help them enter the job market and be successful in the professional world. We want to make the University a center of excellence through blending both academic and research, theoretical and practical exposure supported by co-curricular activities.

Many of our students have already entered into the job market at home and abroad, and are successfully applying their academic knowledge and expertise to help the nation move forward in the 21st century.

Presidency University believes in equality of human beings.  It ensures that no one faces discrimination within its educational and administrative systems.  Additionally, Presidency University knows that some groups including ethnic minorities and women face unwanted challenges to reach the level of equality.   To face these challenges, we provide financial support in the form of scholarships and tuition waivers for minority and female students and children of the freedom fighters of our Great War of Liberation.

Presidency University is approximately 10 years old now.  Our vision is to make it one of the best universities within 2021 when the nation will celebrate 50 years of independence.  To reach this goal, we plan to expand our research and training facilities and academic programs.   The honorable Board of Trustees has been supporting us over the years to come to this stage. With their continuous support and guidance, I am confident that Presidency University will be able to reach its goals.

Education is a tool that enriches young minds with the skills necessary to compete and succeed in a challenging world, and also with the knowledge to maintain peace and justice in the society. I wish to request the graduating students to be the very best ambassadors of liberality toward society free from the fetters of colors and castes, of faith, of non-communalism, of gender, and of nationality, as Khalil Gibran says “Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need.”  I also request the graduating students to assist this fine university to achieve its mission of continuing to be a universally documented center of excellence in the territory of higher education.

Hope that Presidency University graduates will prove their worthiness all over the world.

Thank you all.
Best wishes!
